قطر تشهد نموا سنويا في عدد السكان بنسبة 5-10% (الجزيرة)
| تعتزم قطر إنشاء شبكة للسكك الحديدية للتغلب على حدة الاختناقات المرورية وزيادة عدد السكان في البلد، خاصة إذا فازت بتنظيم دورة الألعاب الأولمبية لعام 2016. ونقلت صحيفة بينيسولا القطرية الناطقة باللغة الإنجليزية نقلا عن مصادر حكومية قولها إنه من المقرر أن يبدأ العمل لإقامة القطار الذي يبلغ طوله 85 كلم عام 2009، على أن يستكمل عام 2015. وستربط شبكة السكك الحديدية بين المنشآت الرياضية في قطر. وأضافت المصادر أن الحكومة ستنفق مليارات الدولارات على البنية الأساسية في البلاد بهدف ضمان نجاح فوزها باستضافة الدورة. وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أنه من المقرر أن ترتفع الطاقة الاستيعابية للفنادق في قطر إلى 80 ألف غرفة من 18 ألفا حاليا بحلول العام 2016. وتشهد قطر وبقية دول الخليج نموا في عدد السكان بنسبة 5-10% ما يزيد من ازدحام المدن، الأمر الذي دفع الحكومات إلى زيادة الإنفاق لتعزيز المرافق والبنية التحتية. ومن المتوقع أن تفتتح دبي أول مرحلة شبكة قطار الأنفاق بتكلفة 4.4 مليارات دولار في سبتمبر/ أيلول 2009، كما تخطط مدن خليجية أخرى كالرياض ومكة وأبوظبي والكويت لإقامة شبكات مماثلة.

The railway network will link between sports facilities in Qatar. The sources added that the government will spend billions of dollars on infrastructure in the country for the purpose of ensuring the success of its victory to host the session.
The newspaper said it planned to increase the absorptive capacity of hotels in Qatar 80 thousand to 18 thousand room of the currently by the year 2016.
